During my first release of app on Google Play Store, it was just an amazing experience. I set up Firebase on my app and I can see that a lot of users are trying the app out. I have done some web apps for startups before and it was hard to get this type of traction this fast. Everything was magical until...
October 24th, I went and check my app on Google Play Developer Console. I was shocked! My app was suspended. The reason quoted was - METADATA Policy violation. They sent an automated email which doesn't even tell you what the exact reason was. I don't even know how to fix it so that I won't encounter the same issue ever again.
I sent an email to appeal and it is supposed to take 72 hours to respond! WTF??!!!
I am a developer who really focus on my users before anything else. So far, I only earned $5 from advertising. Why does Google think I want to bluff anyone?
This is just insane. At this point, I just want to get my app unsuspended so that I can continue to provide value to my users. Pokemon Go is having a Halloween Event and I was hoping to make my app a bit more stable before that. But, too bad... This shit happened.
For your info, Google has the worst customer support. Read these 2 resources:
I want to make a case that I did not create my app to distribute some bad content or to cause trouble. To do so, I am sharing my data that I have collected from Firebase. It is not the best looking number but here they are:
I would understand that my app's name might have been a bit misleading. But, I did not name it on purpose to get more attention. Furthermore, my data shows that there are people who are willing try my app and stick with it. So, I would argue that the name is not a huge problem.
Anyways, to show you how horrible the customer service is at Google, let me show you my conversation with Hal from the Google Play Team:
This is the end of conversation as of October 26th. I don't understand at all why this Hal guy is so against my app or perhaps me. Maybe Google discriminate against new Android developer? Or maybe they discriminate me because I have a Chinese name? Or maybe someone is trying to cut off competition? Furthermore, Google has very little humane response. Talking to their rep is like talking to an AI driven bot. I can see why Elon Musk is worried about Google managing Deep Mind.
I am truly disappointed with Google. During my work interview at Google around July 2016, I can sense that Google culture is all about elitist (although I do have a few friends there who I feel that they are humble). After an intense interview in July, they now decide to give me another hard time with the app that I wrote. What they are doing to my user and my app is simply wrong. Now, I can understand why Larry Ellison would want to sue Google over Java. People at Google will only stick to their policy but not ethical reasons. This is very concerning.
At this point, I only want Google to re-enable my app so that I can make my changes to the METADATA. My users are more important than my anger towards Google. I hope someone from Google will do the right thing for my users and the hard work that I have put in. Without re-enabling my app, I can no longer serve users who have already downloaded my app. This truly saddens me.
P.S. - For those who think Google/Alphabet is making a world a better place, I urge you to think twice. I no longer believe that Google's primary motive is to focus on the users anymore.
